Where is your family from?

 Good afternoon!

Please follow the link below to read this weeks principal message. Please note that there is some very important information in his post.

This week in Science  we had fun talking about animal adaptations this week particularly the dragonfly! Check out our visual journal work!

In social studies we continued to talk about culture and today we looked at what are some things that make up Canadian culture. If someone were to visit our country what are some things they may see or do?

We have some homework for our class! Check out our google classroom for further explanation of our family cultural slideshow assignment.

Here's a song we listened to today!

Prehistoric Helicopters!!

 Good afternoon,

Did everyone manage to log on to our google classroom? Check out our google classroom for more on what we are doing in science!

Also, have you booked your conference yet?! Don't forget!

Today we looked carefully at a dragonfly! We found out that the dragonflies life cycle is egg, nymph, dragonfly. Ask me about the physical adaptation that the nymph uses that we thought was pretty funny :-)

Here are some of our ideas before we did some research...

Why is it's body long and thin?

- Lila - So it can blend in with the sticks on trees

- Abigail - So it feels the wind and knows what direction to fly in.

- Roman - I think it makes it more aerodynamic

- Rana - It helps it steer

Why are there black lines in the wings?

- Yafiet - I think it's like it's arms in the wings.

 Good afternoon!

Please see the important package of student info coming home today! Please put this somewhere safe as it includes all of the information you will need to logon to various programs from home! We have our google classroom up and running so see if your child can login from home! On Friday we will be posting a special assignment that will be due within google classroom and we will be posting a video of our classroom on Tuesday!

Today we practiced skip counting! In grade 3 we work with numbers to 1000! We need to know how to skip count by 2's, 5's, and 10's starting at any number so an example of today's question was...

Count up by 5s, starting at 763

Count by 10s, starting at 227

We also learn how to count by 25's! Skip counting is a great thing to practice at home!

In Social Studies today we talked about culture. Ask me some of the things we can look for to give us clues about a groups way of life! Tomorrow we are going to discuss some of the things that create culture in Canada. This might be another good conversation for dinner time!

- Language        - Geography        - Climate        - Buildings/homes        - Celebrations        - Food

- Clothing        - Animals        - Transportation        - Religion        - Music        - Recreation

Reminder...

Please return all of your forms by Friday!

Thank you for sending in head phones! Tomorrow we have booked the computers so we will be able to make use of those!

 Good afternoon!

Today we started reading Charlotte's Web! If your child has a book at home they are more than welcome to bring it so they can follow along with us and possibly read aloud!

We plan to use the computers regularly at school so for your child' safety and convenience please send your child with a pair of headphones or earbuds. Please label this item in a bag so we can leave them in our buckets! Thank you!

Please note that the start date for parent’s booking for parent conferences is at 4:00 PM (Sep 15, 2020), and booking ends at 14:00 PM (Sep 24, 2020). You will find the link on our website!

For those of you have not already done so, please return the Student Demographic forms as soon as possible.

Monday, September 14, 2020

Happy Monday everyone.  We had a great day of learning starting with logging into the computers and joining our new Google Classroom!  We also had our first fire drill (unexpected) and did a great job of safely and quickly getting out of the school, around the fences and up to the soccer field to check in with everyone else and wait while the fire department did their sweep of the school.  We completed our Animal adaptations page from Friday and continued working on numbers to 1000.

Please remember to return the Student Demographic packages as soon as possible.  Also a reminder to send indoor shoes if you have not done so yet and a water bottle as the water fountains are closed.  Students are able to fill their water bottles throughout the day though as the water filling stations are open.
